What the official sources say
- Under DC law, residents without off-street parking can run a cord to the curb without a public space permit if they follow DDOT's cord-cover guidance. Equipment that doesn't follow it can be confiscated.
- DDOT reminds residents that cords across the sidewalk can be a hazard and block accessibility.
- DDOT closed the curbside charging-station permit in TOPS on Dec. 16, 2024 while it writes siting and equipment guidelines. Only charging vendors could ever apply, not individual residents.
- Permitted curbside stations must be dual-port Level 2 or DC fast chargers. DDOT runs Level 2 chargers at 2000 14th Street NW (2 ports) and 200 2nd Place SE (4 ports).
