EV charger payback calculator for short-term rental hosts
Short answer: Payback in years = install quote ÷ (nightly rate × 365 × occupancy × your uplift %), minus any yearly costs you enter. We don't supply an uplift figure because we found no source we trust for it, so the result depends entirely on the estimate you type in. For reference, Qmerit puts a typical home Level 2 install at $749–$2,500 nationally.

Why don't you suggest an uplift percentage?
We didn't find a published, verifiable study that measures how much an EV charger raises short-term rental bookings or nightly rates. Any default we picked would look like data when it's really a guess. Use your own: compare your listing with similar ones nearby, or try a charger listing filter on your platform and look at its results.
What should go into the install quote?
Use the full written quote: charger hardware, labor, permit, and any panel work. See is my quote fair? and install cost by city to check it. National reference: Qmerit – How much does Level 2 EV charger installation cost? (national, accessed 2026-10-25).
Is the payback figure a prediction?
No. It's arithmetic on your inputs. The booking uplift is your own assumption, and nothing on this page measures it.
Should I charge guests for charging?
That's your call and depends on your platform's rules. If you charge a fee, you can subtract the expected fee income from the yearly cost field.
Does this include rebates?
No. Subtract any utility rebate from the install quote yourself. Our city pages list sourced rebates.
