EV charger safety check
Short answer: We checked 26 home chargers and adapters on 2026-10-25. Searches of the CPSC recall API found no EV charger recalls. The NHTSA equipment recall file lists 11 EV charging recalls since 2010: 6 for adapters and 5 for stations or cordsets. None of the 11 chargers we track for price has a recall. Their UL or ETL listings are as the maker states them, not checked in a directory.

How did we check?
For recalls, we queried the CPSC saferproducts.gov Recall API for the generic terms "EV charger", "electric vehicle charg", "EVSE" and "charging station", and by brand name. None of the results was a vehicle charger; the "charging station" hits were phone and power-bank stations. We then searched NHTSA's equipment recall file for charging terms and removed unrelated items such as superchargers for engines and the Dodge Charger. For listings, UL Product iQ blocked our direct fetch (403) and asks for sign-in, and we didn't automate searches of the Intertek directory. Every listing here is therefore marked as maker-stated or not confirmed.
Last updated: 2026-10-25. This is not a safety certification. Always look for the listing mark on the unit and follow your electrician and inspector.
Why check NHTSA and not only CPSC?
Home EV chargers and adapters count as motor vehicle equipment, so their recalls are filed with NHTSA. Our CPSC searches (saferproducts.gov API) found no EV charger recalls; the NHTSA recall file has 11 EV charging equipment recalls since 2010.
What does maker-stated mean?
The listing (UL, cULus or ETL) comes from the maker's own datasheet, manual or certificate, not a lookup in UL Product iQ or the Intertek directory. UL Product iQ blocked our direct fetch and we did not create an account. Check the label on the unit itself.
What does not confirmed mean?
We couldn't confirm a safety listing from a public directory or the maker. It doesn't mean the product is unlisted.
Was the JuiceBox recalled?
Not as of 2026-10-25. NHTSA opened investigation PE24028 into JuiceBox arcing and fires in October 2024 and closed it in 2025 without a recall finding.
