EV charger bid request generator

Short answer: Fill in your panel, distance and charger, then print or save the scope of work as a PDF and send the same page to three licensed electricians. Each bid then prices the same line items (permit, wire, breaker, panel work, inspection and charger install), and you can compare them side by side.

Why send a written scope of work?

Quotes are hard to compare when each electrician assumes a different wire run, breaker or panel plan. A shared scope asks each one to price the same items and say what they'd change. For context only, Qmerit's national installed range is $749–$2,500 (national range; typical standard install about $1,700). No city-specific figure found. (source). This tool adds no prices of its own.

What should the bid request include?

What do the code references mean?

The breaker line uses NEC 625.41 (overcurrent protection at least 125% of the charger rating) and the GFCI note uses 625.54 (receptacles for charging equipment must be GFCI protected). Both come from Mike Holt's restatement of the 2023 NEC Article 625. Your state may enforce a different edition: see NEC edition by state.

What should I do with the bids?

Once the bids are in, run each one through Is my quote fair? to compare it with sourced national and city figures.

How many bids should I get?

This tool is built for three, so you can compare one scope priced by three electricians. We have no sourced data on how much getting more bids saves.

Why does the bid request not include prices?

We have no sourced per-foot or per-amp prices. The only figures shown are your city's sourced permit fee and Qmerit's national range, for context.

How do I make a PDF?

Click Print / save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in your browser's print dialog. Only the scope of work and the comparison table are printed.
